Nifty rallies past 4700; metals, realty, tech gain
MUMBAI: The National Stock Exchange's Nifty was witnessing buying activity across the board as positive cues from Asian peers boosted sentiments. According to analysts, the market trend seems to be turning bullish for the near term and some more upside may be expected in the next few sessions.
At 11:27 am; the Nifty was at 4729.35, up 92.60 points or 2 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 4732.35 and low of 4675.80 in trade so far.
The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was at 15831.11, up 313.19 points or 2.02 per cent. The 30-share index touched intraday low of 15640.56 and high of 15840.58.
"On the Daily chart, we are observing a long legged Doji. This indicates the prior downside is losing force. In view of the above Doji candlestick pattern, we are of the opinion that if Nifty trades and close above 4652 levels then there is high probability that it may test 4750 - 4800 levels in couple of trading sessions. On the downside, 4587 - 4559 levels may act as support for the day," said Arihant Capital Market report.
BSE Midcap Index was up 1.62 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 1.69 per cent higher.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Metal Index was up 3.32 per cent, BSE Realty Index gained 2.74 per cent, BSE IT Index moved 2.64 per cent higher and BSE Bankex advanced 2.49 per cent.
Coal India (4.66%), Tata Steel (4.25%), Kotak Bank (4.04%), Tata Motors (4.02%) and Sterlite Industries (3.82%) were amongst the major Nifty gainers.
Reliance Industries is embarking on a major diversification into the media and entertainment sector. Its subsidiary will help the promoter group of Network18 fund the rights issues of its two listed entities, Network18 Media and Investments and TV18 Broadcast.
Shares of Reliance Industries were at Rs 719, up 1.70 per cent, Network 18 and Media was locked on 20 per cent upper circuit and TV 18 Broadcast was also locked at 20 per cent upper circuit.
Mahindra & Mahindra (-1.56%), BPCL (-1.27%), Bajaj Auto (-1.13%) and Grasim (-0.24%) were the only index losers.
Market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1148 gainers against 236 losers.
Meanwhile the Asian markets were witnessing a pull-back rally. Hang Seng moved 2.05 per cent higher, Seoul Composite gained 2.52 per cent and Taiwan Weighted moved 1.46 per cent higher.
